Second Victim of KMP Aceh Hebat 2 Engine Explosion Dies
Another trainee from the Malahayati Merchant Marine Polytechnic who was a victim of the engine explosion on the KMP Aceh Hebat 2 has died after receiving treatment at the Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital in Banda Aceh. The victim, Muhammad Bilal Ramzi, passed away on Thursday (25/6) at around 8.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time.
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Banda Aceh Branch General Manager Andri Setiawan expressed his condolences over the death of Muhammad Bilal Ramzi. The deceased’s body has been taken back to his family home in Sabang City.
“We express our deepest condolences on the passing of Muhammad Bilal Ramzi after undergoing intensive medical treatment,” Andri said in Banda Aceh on Friday (26/6).
Muhammad Bilal Ramzi is the second victim to die as a result of the engine explosion on the KMP Aceh Hebat 2. Previously, Fahri Herdi Eko died on Saturday (20/6), also after receiving treatment at the Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital in Banda Aceh.
The explosion occurred in the engine room of the KMP Aceh Hebat 2 ferry, which serves the Banda Aceh-Sabang route, while the vessel was docked at Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh City on Friday (12/6). The incident caused 15 people to suffer burns. They comprised 14 students from the Malahayati Merchant Marine Polytechnic and one crew member of the KMP Aceh Hebat 2. All victims received medical treatment at the Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital.
Andri stated that, on behalf of the management and all ASDP personnel, he extended his sympathies to the family of the deceased. According to him, the loss is deeply felt by the company and all affected parties. “May the deceased be granted the best place in the sight of Allah SWT, and may the family left behind be given strength, fortitude, and sincerity in facing this tragedy,” he said.
He added that since the incident occurred, providing assistance to the victims and their families has been the company’s primary concern. ASDP continues to coordinate with the families, the hospital, and stakeholders to ensure that the necessary care and support are provided optimally. “This commitment will also continue for the other victims who are still in the recovery process,” he said.
Andri emphasised that the safety of passengers, service users, and all personnel working within ASDP’s operational environment is the company’s top priority. He noted that every development from the incident receives full management attention to ensure optimal handling while strengthening operational safety aspects going forward. ASDP also stated that it supports the investigation process being conducted by the authorities and is committed to carrying out a comprehensive evaluation to strengthen operational safety and improve service quality for the public.
“We understand that this incident has left deep sorrow for the victims’ families and all affected parties. Therefore, ASDP will continue to be present and provide the best support in the recovery process, assistance, and necessary handling,” Andri said.
