Second Phase of Piyungan Intersection Repairs Yet to Begin, Traffic Remains Normal

Police have not yet re-implemented a traffic diversion system at the Piyungan T-junction in Bantul, as the project contractor is still completing concrete casting work around SMK Budhi Dharma Piyungan.

“Not yet, for now traffic is still normal, flow from all three directions is smooth,” said Piyungan Police Chief AKP Boedi Hariyanto on Wednesday (15/7/2026).

Boedi could not confirm when the roadworks would resume, as Piyungan Police have not yet received notification from the project contractor. “We are still waiting for further notice from the implementation team,” he said.

Patuk Police Public Relations Officer Aiptu Purwanto also confirmed that traffic on the Jogja-Wonosari road, particularly along the Patuk and Piyungan border, is currently smooth. He said there has been no continuation of the Jogja-Wonosari road repairs. “Information from the contractor is that there is a delay in the concrete casting work in the SMK Budhi Dharma area. So they have just cast the road shoulder around Budhi Dharma,” he said.

Because of this, Purwanto said it is likely that the traffic diversion system will not be implemented on Thursday (16/7/2026). “It will probably be after the casting at Budhi Dharma is finished. If there are any developments, we will inform you,” he said.

It was previously reported that the Bantul Police had temporarily opened all lanes at the Piyungan T-junction, which had been subject to a traffic diversion system due to rigid concrete installation, to anticipate congestion during the school holiday period. “All lanes at the Piyungan T-junction can now be passed by vehicles without any more barriers,” said Bantul Police Public Relations Officer Iptu Rita Hidayanto on Tuesday (30/6/2026). The opening was effective from that day until 15 July 2026, after which the diversion system was scheduled to resume. “But after 15 July 2025, repairs will start again with the construction of the road on the north side,” she said.

Earlier, Patuk Police had prepared traffic management measures ahead of the road repairs on the Jogja-Wonosari road at the Piyungan T-junction. The traffic engineering was to be situational, depending on vehicle density. The repairs, involving rigid concrete installation causing lane narrowing, were originally scheduled from Monday (8/6) to Friday (31/7). “With the repairs at the Piyungan T-junction, it automatically impacts traffic flow in Patuk, because the Jogja-Wonosari road is a main route,” a Patuk Police spokesperson said on Friday (5/6/2026). Alternative routes were prepared, including a diversion from the Patuk PJR post intersection northwards via Kopilimo Cafe & Homestay to Petir, and southwards via Cinomati. Officers were to be stationed at various points to direct motorists if the traffic management plan was activated.
