Search underway for victims of landslide
JAMBI, Jambi: As of Friday, a search and rescue team was still trying to locate two people who went missing during a landslide that happened a day earlier in Talang Lindung subdistrict, Kerinci regency.
The two victims could be buried under collapsed houses or under the mud, said Syamsul, a member of the team.
Meanwhile, skin ailments and diarrhea have started affecting those forced to flee their homes by the disaster, who are now living in barracks in the neighboring subdistrict. The Kerinci regency government has provided aid for those displaced, including Rp 5 million (US$532) in cash and three tons of rice.
The disaster killed one person and damaged some 20 houses in the subdistrict, which lies at the foot of Mount Kerinci. -- JP
