The joint SAR team has officially ceased the search operation for the journalists and crew of the fast boat KM Arupadatu I, which lost contact in the waters of the Sunda Strait, on Thursday (17/09/2026). The decision was made after search efforts had been conducted for 10 days since the group departed to report on the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.

Throughout the operation, searches were carried out via sea, air, and land, involving various elements of the joint SAR units. The termination of the operation marks a heavy moment for the families, who have spent the last 10 days awaiting news regarding the whereabouts of the eight individuals in the group.

During the final stages of the operation, KRI Teluk Gilimanuk-531 navigated the Sunda Strait waters as part of the search for the five journalists and three crew members. The Banten Governor, Andra Soni, accompanied by the Head of the Banten Basarnas Office, Al Amrad, and the Commander of Lanal Banten, Letkol Laut (P) Wawan Subagyo Mardani, provided statements regarding the search for the group that went missing near Carita, Pandeglang, Banten.
