Search for Victim Who Fell into Ravine in Bangli Called Off

Personnel from the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post in Bali, together with SAR elements, the community, and the family, have ceased searching for a resident suspected of falling into a ravine in Banjar Tampuagan, Peninjoan Village, Tembuku District, Bangli Regency, Bali, on Saturday. From the report received by the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, the victim was identified as Ni Nyoman Ngenu, 65. “We received the report on Saturday at 13.20 WITA from I Ketut Suciawan, who said that residents and the family had been trying to search for five days, but to no avail,” explained I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office. It was also explained that the victim, Ni Nyoman Ngenu, was last seen on Monday around 00.30 WITA via CCTV footage in the Peninjoan Village Office area during heavy rain. Since then, her whereabouts have been unknown. For five days, search efforts were carried out by the police, family, and community, but they did not yield results. The family suspected the victim had fallen into a ravine near the location. Following up on the report, at 13.40 WITA, a Rescue Team from the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post, consisting of six personnel, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival at the victim’s family home, the team coordinated before starting the search with joint SAR elements, the family, and residents of Banjar Tampuagan. The sweep began at 15.30 WITA and lasted until 17.45 WITA in the suspected area. The joint SAR team descended to comb the ravine around the location believed to be the victim’s fall point. Saturday’s search effort did not find any clues, and the victim was not found by the time the search ended. The Coordinator of the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post, Putu Bhayangkara, along with the team, met with the family again. The meeting was to confirm the cessation of the search and the signing of the official report closing the SAR operation. “The result of coordination with the target family is that the search has been carried out for five days, from Monday 20 July 2026 until today. From the coordination, the search was stopped at the request of the target family,” Bhayangkara explained when asked for information on Saturday. The decision to stop the search was made by the family because there will be a religious ceremony in the village. Previously, the search had been conducted for six days by local residents. The joint SAR team stated they are ready to provide evacuation assistance if the victim is found later and the community requires support in the evacuation process. The SAR elements involved in this operation consisted of the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post, Tembuku Police, Tembuku Military District Command, Peninjoan Village Babinsa, Peninjoan Village Bhabinkamtibmas, the victim’s family, and residents of Banjar Tampuagan, Peninjoan Village, Tembuku District, Bangli Regency.
