Search for missing journalists and verification of earthquake victims in NTT
Jakarta (ANTARA) - There were several notable humanitarian news stories occurring on Thursday (10/9) that can be reviewed today to start the day.
The news begins with the details regarding the search for journalists who lost contact while covering the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, as well as the verification process for houses affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has deployed 11 ships with over 300 personnel to search for five journalists and three others who went missing while covering the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
“On the first day, we operated in three sectors (government agencies) with our existing strength; on the second day, we operated in five sectors, and today we are expanding to six sectors with 11 ships, including KRI, the Indonesian Navy, large police vessels, as well as ships owned by Basarnas and local potential partners,” said the Head of Basarnas, Mohammad Syafii, at the Marina Carita Coast SAR Post, Pandeglang, Banten.

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has requested that residents participating in the search for the five journalists and three crew members missing during the Anak Krakatau eruption continue to follow safety procedures.
While inspecting the Marina Carita Pandeglang SAR Post in Banten, the Head of Basarnas, Mohammad Syafii, emphasised the importance of the public staying updated on the safe vessel range limits issued by local governments.
“The eruption is at the volcano, and a 3 km radius is prohibited. Outside of that, if it is permitted, we will not restrict community activities, but my plea is for all members of the public to follow the regulations issued by local governments or authorised ministries/agencies,” he said.
- SAR Team expands search for missing journalists to northern Anak Krakatau
The Banten SAR Office stated that the search operation for the group of journalists missing in the Sunda Strait waters, Pandeglang, Banten, on Thursday (10/9), will be expanded with sweeping towards the north of the Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) area.
The Head of the Banten SAR Office, Al Amrad, in Pandeglang, stated that the subsequent search strategy focuses on the southern side, which has been fully covered up to a radius of approximately 20 nautical miles from the centre of Mount Anak Krakatau.
However, the joint SAR Team plans to expand the search area to the northern side around the Mount Anak Krakatau area today. This expansion is adjusted based on calculations of currents, wave shifts, and wind direction.
“For tomorrow, we may expand to the northern side in accordance with the calculations of currents, wave shifts, and wind,” he said.
- Government distributes emergency aid following social conflict in Jayawijaya
The Government, through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), is distributing logistics and emergency equipment to accelerate recovery following social conflicts in Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua Province, as the emergency response status has been extended until 31 December 2026.
The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, in Jakarta, stated that operational support and logistics for displaced persons have been received by the Highland Papua Provincial Government and the Jayawiliaya Regency Government.
“BNPB is distributing food packages, blankets, mats, family kits, refugee tents, polyethylene boats with 25 HP engines, as well as chainsaws and communication radios to support field recovery,” he said.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that the accumulated death toll from the earthquake tremors in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has reached 136 people, with 88 victims dying indirectly or following medical treatment.
The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, during a press conference in Jakarta, expressed deep condolences for the deaths of citizens affected by the disaster that occurred on 15 August.
“We express our deepest condolences regarding the deaths of several Indonesian citizens due to the direct and indirect impacts of the earthquake,” he said.
