Search for KM Nurul Salsa Victims to Conclude This Afternoon, 14 Passengers Still Missing

The search and rescue (SAR) operation for victims of the sunken KM Nurul Salsa in the waters off the Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi, will be concluded this afternoon. The closure comes after the search was conducted for a period of ten days.

"It is planned to be temporarily closed this afternoon," said Head of the Makassar Basarnas Office, Muhammad Arif Anwar, during a press conference at Bhayangkara Hospital in Makassar.

He stated that the SAR operation was carried out in accordance with regulations and will be temporarily suspended after ten days of searching. The operation will be resumed if there are any signs indicating the whereabouts of the victims.

As of the tenth day of the search, the SAR team has evacuated 62 victims, consisting of 58 survivors and four fatalities. Meanwhile, 14 passengers are still declared missing and have not been found.
