Search for Journalists and Crew Members in Sunda Strait Continues

The National Board of Zakat (Baznas) RI, through the Baznas Disaster Response (BTB) unit, is continuing the search for five journalists and three crew members who lost contact near Mount Anak Krakatau, in the waters of the Sunda Strait, Carita District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten.

Idy Muzayyad, Head of Distribution, Utilisation, and Empowerment at Baznas RI, stated that Baznas, via the BTB team, will continue to support the search process alongside the joint SAR team.

“We are deeply concerned about this situation. The search operation has entered its fourth day. As of today, the BT's team together with the joint SAR team is still conducting sweeps around the waters of Mount Anak Krakatau. With the involvement of Baznas Disaster Response in this operation, we hope the five journalists and three crew members who are missing can be found soon,” Idy said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday (12/9).

Idy emphasised that Baznas will continue to support the humanitarian operation until the search yields results. According to him, search and rescue efforts require cooperation from all parties to be maximised, while ensuring the safety of officers amidst the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.

“Our hope is that all victims can be found safely. Baznas will continue to provide support alongside the joint SAR team and all parties involved in this humanitarian operation,” said Idy.

Feka, from the Baznas Disaster Response (BTB) team, reporting directly from the search location, stated that the BTB team has joined Basarnas to continue the search operation for the journalists and crew members who remain missing.

“On the fourth day of the search operation, 11 September 2026, we (BTB) have joined the Basarnas team on KRI 247 to conduct the search. Please pray that today's search operation proceeds smoothly. May we all be granted health,” said Feka.
