Search for 4 KMP Putri Yasmin Victims Officially Closed
The search operation for four missing victims of the Passenger Motor Ship (KMP) Putri Yasmin was officially closed on Wednesday (19/8/2026). Although the operation has been halted, the SAR Team continues to monitor the situation and is prepared to reopen the search if new clues are found.
Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhammad Hariyadi, said the closure was carried out in accordance with regulations after the search had lasted eight days.
“In accordance with regulations, we officially close the SAR operation. However, this closure does not mean monitoring has stopped. We continue to monitor and coordinate with all SAR resources and the fishing community,” said Hariyadi on Wednesday (19/8/2026).
According to him, the SAR operation can be reopened if signs or new information are found regarding the whereabouts of the four victims.
“If in the future signs or new information are found regarding the victims’ whereabouts, the SAR operation will be reopened immediately,” Hariyadi stressed.
Hariyadi stated that during the eight days of operation, the joint SAR Team successfully evacuated 212 people. Of that number, one person was declared dead.
The search was conducted extensively via air, sea, and land routes. The search area was gradually expanded to thousands of square nautical miles, starting from the waters of Lombok, the Lombok Strait, the waters of Bali, to the southern region of Java Island.
From the air, the search involved the Finns SGi Air Bali Helicopter, a CASSA NC212-200 (U-6215) aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Navy, and thermal drones.
At sea, a number of vessels were deployed, including KN SAR, KAL, passenger ships, yachts, RBB, and RIB. The land team also combed several coastlines and disseminated information to fishermen and coastal communities.
Information was also disseminated to passing ships through the Lembar Vessel Traffic Service (VTS).
“For eight days, the Joint SAR Team has fought maximally from air, sea, and land. The search area has been expanded to cover the waters of Lombok, Bali, and Java. However, until Wednesday (19/8) afternoon, the results were still nil and the whereabouts of the four victims had not been found,” said Hariyadi.
With the closure of the SAR operation, all personnel and SAR resources involved have been returned to their respective units and agencies.
The four missing victims of KMP Putri Yasmin are:
Yasir Arafat (37) from Mataram, NTB
Selvina Rambu Mayi (28) from Sumba, NTT
I Made Sutarjana (55) from Denpasar, Bali
Slamet Yulianto (41) from Denpasar, Bali.
