Search and Rescue Team Evacuates 12 Flood Victims in Legian, Bali; One Person Injured
A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team evacuated flood victims in the Campuhan, Dewi Sri, Legian area, Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, on Tuesday (24 February) afternoon.
At the location, the floodwaters were observed to be as high as an adult’s chest.
The Denpasar Search and Rescue Office dispatched 11 personnel with one inflatable boat. Upon arrival at the location, the team immediately met with local residents who requested evacuation assistance.
“One person suffered a leg injury after being hit by a grinder and required immediate evacuation,” said Komang Sudiarsa, the SAR coordinator on the ground, on Tuesday evening.
Later, in the late afternoon, a team from the Ditsamapta Polda Bali joined after carrying out evacuations in the Sanur area, Denpasar City, and part of the Dewi Sri, Legian area, which were also affected by the floods.
The same applied to the Brimob Polda Bali and Balawista. A total of three inflatable boats and three canoes were used in the evacuation effort.
Sudiarsa said that during the SAR operation, it continued to rain heavily and the wind was very strong. Operational vehicles could not pass through the floodwaters, so the inflatable boats had to be deployed quite a distance from the location of the victims.
As the afternoon progressed, the water level was observed to be receding, and some residents were able to evacuate independently to safer places.
The joint SAR team kept watch at the gathering point, but by 17:50 WITA, there were no further requests for evacuation assistance.
“For now, based on observations and reports this afternoon, there are no more victims, so the evacuation has been completed and the water has begun to recede, and we will end the operation for today,” he explained.
A debriefing was then held to evaluate the operation, and it was decided that the teams would return to their respective units, but would remain on standby.
“From noon until late afternoon, a total of 12 people were evacuated by the joint SAR team in the Dewi Sri area,” he said.
The elements of the joint SAR team involved in the flood victim rescue operation included the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, Ditsamapta Polda Bali, and Brimob Polda Bali.
In addition, there were Balawista, Babinpotmar TNI AL, Potensi SAR Bima Sakti Rescue, and local residents.
