HANOI: Nearly all Southeast Asian nations have said they will compete at December's regional Games in Vietnam, despite earlier calls for a postponement because of SARS, Vietnamese sports officials said Friday.
More than 6,000 athletes, coaches and officials from the 10 ASEAN countries have already signed up for the Dec. 5-13 Southeast Asian Games, said Ly Gia Thanh, spokesman for Vietnam's National Olympic Committee.
"We are still waiting for East Timor to register, but it cannot do so until its membership of the International Olympic Committee is recognized in July," he said.
Besides the host country, Indonesia will send the largest delegation -- 1,087 people competing in 29 of the 32 sports on offer. --AFP
