SEA Games venues still unfinished
JAKARTA: Most of the training venues provided for Indonesian athletes for the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games are not ready for use, an official complained in the Philippines.
"I have toured the places provided for the athletes' training (in Metro Manila) and it turns out most of them are not ready," national team SEA Games city coordinator Kusnan Ismukanto was quoted as saying by Antara news service.
"Those that are ready are dirty, so the athletes have had to clean them themselves, which disrupts their routine."
Kusnan said badminton, baseball and softball venues were not ready for training, while others were in their finishing stages.
However, he added the organizers promised the venues would be ready before the Indonesian contingent's arrival on Thursday.
Small contingents of several sports, such as archery, tennis, equestrian, rowing and cycling, having already arrived in the Philippines for the opening of the Games on Sunday.
Soccer and water polo are already in competition. Besides Metro Manila, the 11-country Games is being held in Angeles City, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Cebu, Bacolod City and Tagaytay City. -- JP
