SEA Games cancels rhythmic gymnastics

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Gymnastics Association (Persani) dismissed four gymnasts and a coach from its training center for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games following the event's organizing committee's decision to cancel the team rhythmic gymnastics event.

"Persani discharged gymnasts Wimi Sari, Mita Mardiana, Dewi Nila Santi and Slariska, and coach Yulia Rosi because the SEA Games organizers decided to abolish the event due to lack of participants," Persani's vice secretary general, Frederik Huma, was quoted as saying on Wednesday by Antara news agency.

"There were only two participants, Indonesia and host Malaysia, instead of the three teams required."

Persani aims to win five golds medals from 20 events at the SEA Games. (nvn)
