Sea cruises to be held
JAKARTA: The Ministry of National Education in cooperation with the Indonesian Navy will hold a week of round-trip sea cruises from Surabaya to Makassar involving youth organizations, military and police cadets, students and journalists from Monday.
Scheduled to be officiated by Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri, the cruises -- called Pelayaran Kebangsaan 2001 -- are aimed at strengthening unity among all elements of the nation.
"During the cruises there will be discussion among youths, both civilians and police/military on national integration, the concept of unity and about steps that can be taken to save the country from falling apart," the Ministry of National Education's Director of Student Affairs Sudharmadi said on Friday.
In Makassar, South Sulawesi, the group will have discussions with local leaders and participate in social activities. (edt)
