SINGAPORE (AFP): A Singaporean fishing boat sank after
colliding with a Vietnamese-registered container ship off here,
the Singaporean Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said yesterday.
The 8,384-ton Me Linh, bound for Ho Chi Minh City, and the
Singaporean boat collided late Saturday when visibility was about
four kilometers, the MPA said.
No one was injured in the container vessel which was
undamaged. Police coast guards rescued two Indonesians from the
fishing boat, it said. Another Indonesian remains missing
The MPA is still investigating the incident, which comes 10
days after a Thai-registered crude carrier crashed into a
Cypriot-flagged oil tanker also in Singapore waters, causing the
island state's worst oil spill.
