Sea and OpenAI Launch Regional Codex Hackathon Series in Indonesia
Sea and OpenAI have officially opened registration for the Indonesia edition of the Sea x OpenAI Regional Codex Hackathon Series. This hackathon serves as a platform for local developers and technology engineers to learn, experiment, and explore the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to address societal needs.
Following the successful launch of its regional series in Singapore, the Indonesian edition will expand the focus on practical AI development for tech developers in the country. Registration for the Indonesia Hackathon edition opened on 14 September 2026 and will close on 10 October 2026.
Participants can form teams consisting of 3 to 4 members to register. A total of 30 selected teams will be invited to participate in an offline hackathon for one day in Jakarta on 7 November 2026.
This initiative is part of a collaboration between Sea and OpenAI to support AI innovation and the developer community in the Asia Pacific region. Participants will gain access to Codex, OpenAI’s programming agent, as well as direct mentorship from technology experts from both Sea and OpenAI.
Through this guidance, participants can explore new approaches to software development, improve workflows, and transform initial ideas into fully functional solutions.
Three Technological Development Focuses
In this event, participants are encouraged to develop practical AI solutions capable of meeting the needs of consumers, businesses, and society through several technological development focuses:
Autonomous & Adaptive AI: This focus involves developing AI agents that can reliably respond to changing conditions while humans maintain control. In practice, adaptive AI technology is expected to handle unexpected conditions even when field situations change.
AI-Native Products & Operations: Currently, most products use AI only as an additional feature. This development area will focus on redesigning products and operations that are fundamentally shaped by AI-based technology.
Deep Domain AI: This focus involves developing AI technology designed with specialised expertise in specific fields to understand context and field operations. Thus, AI technology is not only judged by its sophistication but by its ability to provide relevant solutions for life.
Prizes for the Sea x OpenAI Regional Codex Hackathon Series Winners:
1st Place: OpenAI API credits worth US$30,000
2nd Place: OpenAI API credits worth US$15,000
3rd Place: OpenAI API credits worth US$5,000
Additionally, every member of the top five teams will receive a free one-year ChatGPT Pro subscription package. The provision of these prizes aims to provide additional resources for participants to continue experimenting and creating after the hackathon concludes.
