Sea and OpenAI launch AI hackathon for local developers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Sea and OpenAI have opened registrations for the Sea x OpenAI Regional Codex Hackathon Series Indonesia edition to encourage local technology developers to explore the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing societal needs.
According to a written statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, registration for the event opened on 14 September and will continue until 10 October 2026.
Participants can register in teams consisting of three to four people. A total of 30 selected teams will participate in an in-person hackathon for one day in Jakarta on 7 November 2026.
Through this event, participants will gain access to Codex, OpenAI’s AI-based programming agent, and receive mentorship from technology experts from Sea and OpenAI.
This mentorship is designed to help participants explore new approaches in software development, improve workflows, and transform initial ideas into usable solutions.
Focusing on adaptive and autonomous AI, participants are encouraged to develop AI agents capable of responding reliably to changing conditions while keeping humans in control.
Meanwhile, the focus on AI-based products and operational systems is directed towards developing products and operational processes that are designed with AI technology from the outset, rather than merely adding AI as an extra feature.
Furthermore, Deep Domain AI emphasises the development of AI technology with specialised expertise in specific fields, enabling it to understand the context and requirements of field applications.
The three best teams in the competition will receive OpenAI API credits, valued at US$30,000 for the first winner, US$15,000 for the second, and US$5,000 for the third.
Additionally, members of the top five teams will receive a one-year ChatGPT Pro subscription package.
The Indonesian edition of the event is part of a collaboration between Sea and OpenAI to support the development of AI innovation and the technology developer community in the Asia Pacific region.
Previously, the regional series was launched in Singapore before being expanded to Indonesia.
