SDN 4 Tianyar Barat in Karangasem Burnt Down, Three Rooms Destroyed

State Elementary School (SDN) 4 Tianyar Barat, located in Banjar Dinas Tegal Sari, Tianyar Barat Village, Kubu District, Karangasem, caught fire on Saturday (5/9/2026) night. As a result of the incident, losses are estimated to reach Rp 500 million.

The Head of Tegal Sari Hamlet, I Nyoman Puspita, stated that the fire at SD Tianyar Barat was noticed by a local resident whose house is located near the site. The flames were already quite large by the time the fire was discovered.

“The fire was quite large; three rooms were burnt, namely the teachers’ room, the library, and the Grade VI classroom,” said Pincpita.

Several local residents attempted to extinguish the flames using makeshift equipment. However, they were unable to do much as the fire had already grown too large.

All items in the teachers’ room, library, and Grade VI classroom of SDN 4 Tianyar Barat could not be saved. “Only the television was managed to be saved; the rest were all burnt to ashes,” Puspita added.

The Karangasem Fire and Rescue Service (Damkartan) deployed 11 personnel and four fire engines to tackle the blaze. Approximately 20,000 litres of water were used during the operation.

“Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other buildings within the school premises,” said Puspita.

The fire at SDN 4 Tianyar Barat is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. However, the police will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause.
