Scout figure dies at 85
BANDUNG: A former national scout leader, Lt. Gen. (ret) Mashudi, passed away at 85 on Wednesday morning due to heart complications.
His niece, Rini Hairin Nurhayati, said Mashudi, who was also the West Java governor in the 1960-1970 period, had a heart attack when he was on his way to Jakarta from Bandung on Monday.
"He was sent to the Red Cross Hospital and told he had a respiratory problem, but, because his health did not improve then he was moved to Gatot Subroto Army Hospital in the capital," said Rini.
Mashudi, also a former member of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Supreme Advisory Council (DPA) during the Soeharto regime, will be buried in Cikutra Heroes Cemetery in Bandung on Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, Yeti Rochyati two children, Nanay Zubaedah and Muhammad Saleh, as well as five grandchildren.
Born on Sept. 11, 1920 in Garut regency, West Java, Mashudi led the national scout movement during the 1974-1994 period. He also won the Bronze of Wolf award from the international scout organization. --JP
