Steven Lyons (45), an Interpol fugitive from England, has been returned to his country after being arrested in Bali. The Scottish crime boss was deported with strict escort in the early hours of Wednesday.

“Indonesian authorities have determined deportation measures for the suspect. To ensure maximum security, the individual was deported with escort on Wednesday early morning, 8 April 2026,” stated the Secretary of Indonesia’s NCB International, Brigadier General Untung Widiyatmoko, in his remarks on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Brigadier General Untung conveyed that the Secretariat of Indonesia’s NCB Interpol under the National Police’s International Traffic Directorate and relevant authorities have coordinated to ensure the suspect’s return to the requesting country proceeds smoothly and securely.

As is known, Steven Lyons, who is the leader of the ‘Lyons Crime Family’, was arrested upon landing at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday (28/3). Steven Lyons became an Interpol target after his name appeared on the red notice list.

For information, an Interpol red notice is an international request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest an individual who is a fugitive, pending extradition or similar legal action. It is a notice to track suspects of serious crimes who have fled abroad.

Brigadier General Untung emphasised that this success is the fruit of solid global intelligence cooperation. The arrest of Steven Lyons is part of ‘Operasi ARMORUM’, a joint multinational investigation involving Spain’s Guardia Civil Central Operative Unit and Police Scotland. This arrest proves that Indonesian territory is not a safe haven for organised crime perpetrators.

“This arrest is not merely a tactical success, but also a firm message to the international community. The Indonesian NCB Interpol Set prioritises the commitment to eradicating Transnational Crime by capturing international DPO suspects subject to Interpol Red Notices. There is no safe zone in Indonesia for Interpol fugitives,” he continued.

Profile of Steven Lyons

Steven Lyons is known as the top leader of the ‘Lyons Crime Family’, a transnational crime organisation originating from Scotland that orchestrates a network of large-scale money laundering and narcotics trafficking from Spain to Great Britain.

According to the BBC, Steven Lyons initially led the Lyons clan, which was originally based in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. This clan was involved in a bloody feud lasting more than 20 years with its rival group, the Daniels, based in Glasgow, Scotland. The Lyons clan later became known as a notorious mafia group there.

In 2006, Steven Lyons survived a shooting in a garage in Lambhill, a northern area of Glasgow, which claimed the life of his cousin, Michael Lyons. He then moved to Spain before settling in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In May 2025, Steven Lyons’ brother, Eddie Lyons Jr, and Ross Monaghan were shot dead in a beachside bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.

The two men had spent the night watching the Champions League final before becoming targets of a lone gunman.

The man from Liverpool, Michael Riley (44), was accused by Spanish police as the perpetrator of the murders.

He had challenged extradition efforts, but in October, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that he had consented to being brought to Spain to face legal proceedings.

In the days following the double shooting, a Spanish National Police investigator stated that the suspect was a member of the rival Daniel criminal group.

However, Police Scotland emphasised that there was no indication that the murders in Spain were linked to the ongoing war between criminal groups or that the attack was planned in Scotland.
