SCO sees new opportunities amid evolving global landscape
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is embracing significant new development opportunities amid accelerating global changes unseen in a century, according to a recently released report by a Xinhua think tank. The report, titled ‘Upholding Fairness and Justice and Improving Global Governance – Achievements, Opportunities, and Prospects for SCO Cooperation’, was published by the Xinhua News Agency High-Level Think Tank in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on Monday. It provides a systematic review of the SCO’s groundbreaking achievements and historic accomplishments over the 25 years since its establishment, an in-depth analysis of the vast opportunities for cooperation within the organisation under the current international situation, and a comprehensive exposition of the broad prospects and global significance of building an SCO community with a shared future. The SCO has grown into the world’s largest regional international organisation in terms of geographical coverage and population, the report noted. Over the years, the SCO has upheld fairness and justice, refined its institutional framework, and practised the Shanghai Spirit, which emphasises mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diversity of civilisations, and the pursuit of common development. The organisation has become an important force in promoting world peace and development and safeguarding international fairness and justice. In the coming decade, the SCO is expected to expand cooperation in various key areas, including development strategies, connectivity, green transformation, financial innovation, security cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, ushering in a new phase of high-quality development that promises greater unity, coordination, dynamism, and effectiveness. Looking ahead, the report stressed that SCO member states will continue to play a leading role in accelerating the formation of an SCO community with a shared future. At the same time, they will strive to be builders of a fair and equitable international order and serve as a model for a new form of international relations. SCO member states will further demonstrate the organisation’s responsibility and commitment in global affairs, strengthen its cohesion and international influence, contribute to the establishment of a more just and equitable global governance system, and work with all parties towards realising a community with a shared future for mankind.
