Schools to Continue Face-to-Face Learning, Government Insists No WFH in Education Sector
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government has ensured that teaching and learning activities will continue normally on a face-to-face basis amid efficiency policies and changes in work patterns.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stressed that the education sector is not affected by the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN).
“For the education sector, teaching and learning activities will continue to be conducted face-to-face, that is, offline, normally across all levels of basic to secondary education for five days a week,” said Airlangga during an online press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
This policy is part of a package of eight points of national work culture transformation. The package was prepared in response to global dynamics, including supply chain disruptions and economic pressures.
Airlangga emphasised that the national economic condition remains stable with strong fundamentals. Energy and fiscal stability are considered to be maintained.
“It needs to be emphasised to the public that the national economic condition remains stable with solid fundamentals,” he said.
This policy is accompanied by restrictions on the use of official vehicles to 50 percent and a reduction in official travel.
Several sectors are exempted from the policy. Public services and strategic sectors will continue to operate normally. Education is one of the sectors that does not implement distance learning.
