Schools to adopt merit-based system

GORONTALO, Gorontalo: A government official complained on Thursday that most elementary school principals in the city got promotions based solely on seniority, and not quality.

The number of people that have received the promotions, which are not based on merit, reaches some 80 percent out of total of 107 elementary school principals in the city, said the head of Gorontalo education office, Darwis Salim. "It is concerning. In the not too distant future, we will adopt a promotion system that will be merit-based," said Darwis, while blaming the present system as the culprit behind the poor state of education in the city. -- Antara
