Schools in Bogor Regency Implement Distance Learning for 2 Days Due to Volcanic Ash from Anak Krakatau

The Bogor Regency Government in West Java has decided to implement distance learning (PJJ) for two days, on Monday 7 September and Tuesday 8 September, taking into account the current conditions resulting from volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

Bogor Regency Regional Secretary Ajat Rochmat Jatnika said the decision was taken after the regional government reviewed the latest developments in the Bogor Regency area.

“Looking at the current conditions, Bogor Regency will implement PJJ on Monday and Tuesday,” said Ajat.

He said the Bogor Regency Government is preparing a circular as the legal basis for implementing the PJJ policy.

The decision is the latest development in the Bogor Regency Government’s anticipatory measures, after the regional government had previously planned for school activities to run normally on Monday.

Ajat had earlier said that PJJ was one of the options if volcanic ash exposure continued or conditions worsened again.

“Unless the dust is indeed continuous. If the situation looks continuous, with dust arriving constantly, then perhaps that option (WFH/PJJ) will be chosen,” he said.

The Bogor Regency Government has also instructed the cleaning of educational facilities and infrastructure, health facilities, and offices affected by the ash.

Based on preliminary reports received by Ajat, the impact of the volcanic ash has been felt from the western part of Bogor to Cibinong, although the deposits are not very thick.

The Bogor Regency Government has deployed fire brigade units in several areas to spray and clean the settled ash.

Spraying was carried out simultaneously by fire brigade units from West Bogor, Cibinong, to East Bogor as an effort to reduce dust exposure in public facilities and spaces.

The Bogor Regency Government has also urged the public to wear masks when doing activities outside the home and to avoid direct contact with volcanic ash.

The spread of volcanic ash resulting from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau was observed reaching the Bogor area based on monitoring by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through RGB analysis of Himawari-9 Satellite Imagery on Sunday 6 September at 05.00 WIB.
