School to hold painting contest

JAKARTA (JP): The Gandhi Memorial International School is to hold an open painting contest for local and international junior and senior high school students.

Principal A.P. Singh said yesterday that the free-of-charge contest would be held in the school's auditorium on Saturday from 8 a.m to 11:30 a.m.

It will be divided into two categories, juniors (14 years and below) and seniors (14 to 19 years old).

The junior participants will be required to choose between themes of either Save the Environment or International Understanding Through Games. The themes for the senior students will be Unity in Diversity or Cover Page for A School Magazine.

Singh said the competition was designed to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day.

"A school can send any number of participants. We encourage all budding artists to join in but no students can participate in more than one category," said Singh.

Paints or crayons should be brought by participants; the organizers will only provide the paper, he said.

The winners will receive cash prizes worth between Rp 50,000 (US$19) and Rp 200,000 each, said Singh.

The final date for registration is tomorrow.

Those intending to compete can fill in the entry forms at the Gandhi Memorial International School on Jl. Pangandaran IX Blok B-4, Ancol in North Jakarta. The telephone number is 690 9902-04. (bsr)
