School teachers demoted
YOGYAKARTA (JP): Ninety-five state primary and high school
teachers have been demoted for trying to circumvent procedures to
obtain promotion, an official said.
The head of the Yogyakarta office of the Civil Servants'
Administrative Board, Soetrisno, said the 95 teachers were found
to have forged their promotion recommendation documents.
The police have arrested three men believed to have been
involved in the scam, Soetrisno told Antara.
A number of the demoted teachers said they paid brokers Rp
100,000 each to secure the documents.
"Some of our colleagues succeeded in getting the promotion. So
we followed," a teacher in the Sleman regency said.
Soetrisno was disheartened that the teachers used an illegal
short cut to get a promotion. He pointed out that they are
automatically promoted every two years. (emb)
