School Security Guard in Kulon Progo Allegedly Harassed Student
A flyer circulating on social media has alleged sexual harassment by a security guard against a student at SMAN 1 Sentolo, Kulcal Progo. The school authorities have now spoken out regarding the incident.
The social media post featured slogans such as ‘Case of Security Guard Molestation Covered Up’ and ‘Students are required to arrive at 6:50 AM. We are not slaves.’ However, the primary focus of the controversy is the alleged harassment by the security guard.
Johan Wahyudi, the Vice Principal for Student Affairs, stated that the incident occurred in early August when two female students returned to the classroom to retrieve items left behind after marching band (tonti) practice.
At the time, the school premises were nearly empty. As it was already 4:00 PM and most areas had been closed, the students requested assistance from the security guard to retrieve items such as a phone charger.
Johan noted that after the items were retrieved, the guard allegedly attempted to embrace one of the students, who subsequently moved away to avoid him.
The school became aware of the incident after the student reported the discomfort to the school counsellor. CCTV footage was subsequently reviewed to verify the claims.
According to Johan, the CCTV footage confirms the attempted embrace and shows the student actively avoiding the guard and running away while on a video call with a friend to ensure the incident would not be repeated.
Security Guard Reassigned
Johan stated that the school immediately contacted the security service provider to request that the guard be transferred from the school premises to ensure student safety and comfort. The school presented the video evidence to the provider, requesting a rotation of personnel rather than immediate dismissal.
Following a meeting with the service provider, the security guard reportedly admitted to the actions captured on CCTV. Consequently, the guard was required to sign a written agreement and has been issued a third warning (SP3), stating that any recurrence will result in dismissal.
Clarification on Student Video/Flyer
Regarding the recent emergence of flyers claiming the case had not been addressed, Johan stated that the school summoned the students who created the flyers to clarify the information.
Johan explained that because students and seniors felt the matter remained unresolved, they created the flyers alleging that the molestation was being ignored. He argued that the claim that the case was being hidden or left unaddressed was inaccurate, as the school had taken decisive action, though he acknowledged that some students may still feel dissatisfied with the outcome.
