A private school in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, is supporting the police investigation into the discovery of hundreds of firearms and air guns in a room belonging to the former chairman of the foundation. They have requested that the police investigate the case thoroughly.

“For us as a school, the storage of weapons on school premises is clearly prohibited by law. It is absolutely forbidden, it is not allowed. Why? Because weapons are certainly dangerous. From that standpoint, we ask the police to be very serious, transparent, and professional in prosecuting this case,” said the school’s legal representative, Hermawanto, to reporters on Thursday (6/8/2026).

The school is respecting the legal process after the discovery was reported to the South Jakarta Metro Police. The school also refrains from concluding whether other parties were involved in the possession of the weapons.

“The legal status of each item remains the authority of the investigators to prove, based on the results of forensic and ballistic examinations, as well as research into the legality of their permits,” he said.

“However, these developments indicate that this case can no longer be seen as an ordinary matter. The type and quantity of items found demand a much deeper investigation because it involves broader legal interests, including national security, as there is potential and reasonable suspicion of illegal arms trading,” he explained.

Hermawanto stated that the weapons were discovered on 10-11 July 2026 during a loading and unloading of goods. School officials found 995 firearms inside the room.

On Wednesday (5/8) evening, the school discovered several more weapons. Not only that, Hermawanto mentioned that his team also found narcotics and up to 30 pornographic CDs in the former foundation chairman’s room.

“Our primary concern is that the storage location of these items is within a school environment, a place used daily by students for learning. Whatever the legal status of these items turns out to be, storing equipment in such large quantities in an educational area raises serious questions regarding safety aspects, as well as compliance with licensing provisions and storage governance,” he clarified.

Police Investigation

The South Jakarta Metro Police are currently investigating the discovery of weapons in a room at a private school in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama.

“It is true that the South Jakarta Metro Police have received a public report regarding the discovery of weapons (consisting of air guns and firearms) stored in a room at a school foundation located in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta,” said South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head, Joko Adiwibowo, to reporters on Thursday (6/8).

The discovery of the weapons has been reported to the South Jakarta Metro Police. Joko stated that prior to the report being filed, the police had already issued a model A report regarding the finding.

“Before the police report in question was made, the South Jakarta Police had already created a model A police report immediately after the incident was discovered,” he said.
