Ahead of the 2026 school holiday season, the government is again providing stimulus for people wishing to travel. Under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, a number of transport fares have been reduced, covering trains, sea vessels, ferry crossings, and plane tickets.

Minister of Transport Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the policy aims to maintain public purchasing power while encouraging economic activity during the holiday period.

“This policy is a form of government presence in providing convenience for the public to travel at more affordable costs. We hope this incentive can be optimally utilised by the community, while having a positive impact on the transport, tourism, and national economy sectors,” Dudy said in an official statement on Saturday (20/6/2026).

The policy is set out in a Joint Decree of the Minister of Transport, Minister of Finance, and Head of the State-Owned Enterprise Regulatory Body concerning the assignment to transport sector SOEs to provide fare discounts as an economic stimulus during the 2026 school holidays, Christmas 2026, and New Year 2027.

During this year’s school holiday period, the government is providing a 30% discount for all commercial economy-class train services, valid from 20 June to 5 July 2026.

Additionally, a 30% discount is also given for all economy-class passenger sea vessel routes, valid for a longer period, from 20 June to 15 August 2026.

Furthermore, the government is waiving port service fees, or providing a 100% discount, for foot passengers and class II and IVA vehicles at 14 ports on seven ferry crossing routes during the period of 20 June to 5 July 2026.

The routes receiving this facility include Merak-Bakauheni, Ketapang-Gilimanuk, Lembar-Padangbai, Kayangan-Pototano, Tanjung Uban-Telaga Punggur, Ajibata-Ambarita, and Sape-Labuan Bajo.

For air transport, the government is providing an incentive in the form of 100% Government-Borne Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) for scheduled economy-class plane tickets. This facility applies to ticket purchases and travel during the period of 24 June to 5 July 2026.

Dudy emphasised that amidst increased public mobility during the holiday season, safety, security, and comfort aspects remain the government’s top priority in the provision of transport services.

With this series of incentives, the government hopes the public can enjoy holiday travel at more affordable costs while encouraging domestic tourist movement and national economic growth.
