School Holidays Approaching: Domestic Flight Prices Hit Rp 2 Million
The even-semester school holidays for the 2025/2026 academic year, covering all levels from early childhood to senior high school, are fast approaching. The holiday period is expected to last approximately two weeks, during which many will travel domestically or abroad for leisure or to visit relatives.
Before deciding on a holiday destination for this upcoming season, it is essential to monitor domestic flight price trends. According to a survey conducted by CNBC Indonesia on the Traveloka booking platform on Wednesday (3/6/2026), flight fares from Jakarta to various tourist destinations and major cities for late June 2026 are recorded between Rp 1 million and nearly Rp 2.3 million per passenger for a one-way trip.
For the Jakarta-Bali route, for instance, direct flight prices for Friday (26/6/2026) start from Rp 1.89 million to Rp 1.95 million per person in economy class. The cheapest fare is offered by Sriwijaya Air at Rp 1,894,666 for a direct flight from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to I Gustation Ngurah Rai Airport, with a flight duration of approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. Meanwhile, Lion Air tickets for the same route are priced at Rp 1,914,351, and NAM Air offers fares starting from Rp 1,951,729. At these prices, air travel costs to the ‘Island of the Gods’ are nearly touching Rp 2 million per passenger during the school holiday season.
Even higher prices are observed on the Jakarta-Medan route. For departures on Saturday (27/6/2026), direct flights from Jakarta to Kualanamu Airport are priced starting from Rp 2,297,421 per person. This fare appears on several Lion Air schedules with a travel duration of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. This means flying from Jakarta to Medan during this period has exceeded Rp 2.2 million for a one-way trip; for a round trip, passengers could potentially spend approximately Rp 4.5 million on airfare alone.
In contrast, the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route remains relatively more affordable compared to the aforementioned destinations. For departures on Sunday (28/6/2026), direct flight prices start from Rp 1,175,026 using TransNusa. On the same day, Sriwijaya Air offers tickets starting from Rp 1,246,051, while Citilink is in the range of Rp 1,298,121. Although cheaper than Bali and Medan, fares to Yogyakarta remain above Rp 1 million per passenger.
The high cost of tickets ahead of the school holidays is drawing attention as it has the potential to influence public travel patterns. This situation indicates that air transport costs are becoming one of the largest components of tourism expenditure during long holiday periods, particularly for popular destinations such as Bali and Medan.
