School Holiday Train Ticket Discounts Still Available for 552,457 Seats
The Government’s 30% transport discount programme for the school holiday season, managed by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) under the Ministry of Transportation, still has hundreds of thousands of seats available. State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) reported that as of Monday, 22 June 2026 at 10.00 WIB, 622,167 tickets had been booked, representing 52.97 per cent of the total 1,174,624 seats provided for the travel period of 20 June to 5 July 2026. This leaves 552,457 seats still available for members of the public planning affordable school holiday travel by train. KAI is urging customers to immediately check schedules, routes, and seat availability via the Access by KAI application to secure more travel time options. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the discount programme is an opportunity for the public to enjoy school holiday travel at reduced costs, particularly for families travelling to various cities by train. She noted that the 30 per cent discount is a form of government support through DJKA to make holiday travel more affordable, with KAI providing service quotas and facilitating bookings through official channels, especially the Access by KAI app. Customers can use the app to check departure schedules, select routes, view seat availability, and make reservations. The discount applies as long as the quota remains available under the programme’s terms. The highest number of bookings by departure date was recorded on 21 June with 82,064 tickets, followed by 20 June with 77,505 tickets, and 22 June with 66,523 tickets, indicating strong public enthusiasm from the start of the holiday period. The five stations with the highest departure bookings are Pasarsenen (82,603 tickets), Yogyakarta (44,824), Semarang Tawang (28,407), Lempuyangan (27,415), and Bekasi (24,614). For arrivals, the busiest stations are Pasarsenen (76,841), Yogyakarta (49,987), Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng (27,279), Lempuyangan (25,640), and Bekasi (25,466). KAI advises customers to book early, ensure their identity details match their tickets, double-check departure schedules, and arrive at the station well in advance to ensure a smooth boarding process. The company emphasised that the school holiday period is typically a time for family travel, encouraging the public to plan their journeys carefully and take advantage of the remaining discounted fares through the Access by KAI app.
