School Holiday Return Peak: 39,320 Passengers Crowd KAI Daop 8 Surabaya Stations

On the final day of the school holidays, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya served a total of 39,320 customers travelling by train through various stations in the Daop 8 Surabaya region. The figure comprised 18,300 departing passengers and 21,020 arriving passengers, with the number expected to rise into the evening as train schedules continued. Manager Humas KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, confirmed the data in Surabaya on Sunday (12/7). Data from KAI Daop 8 Surabaya also showed a significant increase in passenger volume during the school holiday weekend compared to a regular weekend. During the school holiday weekend of 10, 11, and 12 July 2026, a total of 65,196 passengers departed from various stations in the Daop 8 Surabaya area. In contrast, during the non-holiday weekend of 5, 6, and 7 June 2026, the number of departing passengers was recorded at 54,059. This represents an increase of approximately 21 percent in departing passenger volume during the school holiday weekend. Since the beginning of the school holiday period, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya anticipated the increase in public mobility by ensuring all operational aspects ran optimally. Cumulatively, during the school holiday period from 22 June to 12 July 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya served a total of 984,422 departing and arriving passengers across its network. This total consisted of 492,660 departing passengers and 491,762 arriving passengers. The operator focused on ensuring the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, enhancing operational reliability, strengthening station services, and deploying personnel at various service points to assist customers.
