School Health Screenings Find Majority of Students Suffer from Dental Problems

Based on the results of examinations from 1 January to 14 July 2026, there are five health problems most frequently found among students. First, 40.8 percent of students suffer from cavities, according to the Government Communication Body (Bakom) RI.

Bakom RI’s Deputy III for Government Partnerships and Media, Kurnia Ramadhana, stated in a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday that the Free Health Screening (CKG) programme in schools has been rolled out simultaneously since 4 August 2025, targeting children aged 7 to 17 years. During the period of 1 January to 14 July 2026, a total of 8,824,185 students participated in the health examinations.

He explained that the government is targeting 50,255,073 students from 303,226 schools to participate in CKG this year, divided among 184,714 elementary schools, 68,109 junior high schools, 43,032 senior high schools, 4,048 Islamic boarding schools, and 3,360 special needs schools.

The services provided for school CKG include checks on physical activity levels, anaemia in adolescent girls, as well as eye, ear, dental, and mental health examinations. The programme is intended for the early detection of health problems in children, early education on lifestyle habits, and to support improved focus and learning achievement in children.

If indications of illness are found, parents can receive a referral to advanced health facilities more quickly.
