School buildings ready to collapse

BATANG, Central Java: Nearly 80 elementary school buildings in
Central Java were in danger of collapsing while a further 46 were
in an extremely poor condition, Batang education office head Abu
Syairi said on Tuesday.

He said his office had asked the central government for Rp
16.4 billion to upgrade the buildings but was yet to get a
response.

The Batang administration has disbursed Rp 3.3 billion while
the Central Java administration has given Rp 471 million.

The elementary schools that need urgent repairs are located in
the districts of Wonotunggal, Bandar, Blado, Rebah, Bawang,
Limpung, Tersono, Grinsing, Subah, Tulis, Batang and Warung Asem.
