School Building Construction Projects in Denpasar Targeted for Completion by Late 2026

The Denpasar City Government is continuing to accelerate the improvement of educational infrastructure for several primary schools (SD) and junior high schools (SMP). The school building renovation projects are targeted for completion by the end of 2026.

“Construction began around June-July. Completion will be gradual, at the earliest finishing in October, followed by November and December 2026,” said the Head of Primary School Development at the Denpasar City Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora), I Nyoman Suriawan, on Thursday (17/09/2026).

This year, 14 primary schools and five junior high schools are receiving building improvement assistance from the Denpasar City Government. Suriawan explained that these school buildings are being constructed as multi-storey structures due to the limited land availability in Denpasar.

“Old buildings that were in a state of heavy damage are being demolished and rebuilt,” said Suriawan.

“We have conceptualised them as two and three-storey buildings. This is adjusted to the classroom requirements in each school, particularly for junior high schools,” he added.

Suriawan hopes that the improvement and construction of these school buildings will enhance the quality of education in Denpasar. In addition to classrooms, the educational facility projects also include teacher rooms, principal offices, libraries, laboratories, and more.

The budget for each school depends on the size of the building and the number of rooms constructed. “This is part of the City Government’s strategic projects, which are monitored through the KPK’s MCP (Corruption Prevention Model). The smallest budget involves six classrooms, amounting to approximately Rp 3.744 billion,” he concluded.
