Scholarships from Rio Tinto

JAKARTA (JP): The Rio Tinto Foundation, formed by Anglo- Australian mining company Rio Tinto, signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with East Kalimantan's environmental supervision office to promote the knowledge of the latter's staff on the environment.

The foundation said in a statement under the five-year MOU, the office would formulate programs to promote the knowledge of its staff cross the province on the environment with funds provided by the foundation.

The foundation would provide scholarships for them to pursue their studies on the environment up to a doctoral degree, the statement said.

Rio Tinto is active in coal and gold mining in the country. (jsk)
