Scholarship granted to Olympiad winner

JAKARTA: Al-Azhar Islamic Boarding School Foundation on Monday granted a scholarship worth Rp 20 million (US$2,000) for one of its students for his achievement at the recent International Mathematics and Science Olympiads in Jakarta.

Ananda Andhika Tangguh Pradana, a sixth grade student at the Islamic Elementary School (SDI) Al Azhar 17 Bintaro, received the scholarship during the flag hoisting ceremony at one of the foundation's campuses on Jl. Sisingamangaraja in South Jakarta.

Principal Muhammad Izzi Madjid said Ananda would get free schooling for his remaining seven months in elementary school, free entrance to studying at any Al-Azhar junior high schools and free schooling at the school.

Students of elementary schools from 12 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Taiwan and Pakistan took part in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiads in Jakarta last month. -- Antara.
