Scholarship cut

Scholarship cut

From Kompas

My child, who is a student of the junior high school in
Wamena, Jayawijaya district, won a scholarship worth Rp 25,000 a
month for the 1994/1995 academic year. The amount of the
scholarship was to be paid for the whole year in the form of
Simpeda (regional development savings) and was deposited in the
Regional Development Bank.

To our surprise, my child only had Rp 200,000 in his savings
account instead of Rp 300,000 for 12 months. According to the
school principal, an amount of Rp 100,000 was deducted from each
student as an administration fee. In this particular academic
year, 56 students were entitled to receive scholarships. This
means that Rp 5,600,000 was collected in administration fees.
This is too much.

We deplore the school's policy.
