JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian government is preparing traffic management strategies for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period to ensure smooth traffic flow without disrupting national logistics distribution.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi affirmed that the regulations will focus on freight transport operations and the management of street vendors along major routes, coordinated across ministries and agencies.

This measure is taken to anticipate the anticipated surge in public mobility, which is expected to reach 143.91 million people during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr period.

“Restricting freight vehicles is an important step to maintain optimal road capacity so that traffic can flow smoothly and safely. The regulations will be implemented selectively, considering safety and the smooth distribution of logistics,” said Dudy in an official statement on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

The policy is outlined in a Joint Decree (SKB) between the Ministry of Transportation, the National Traffic Police (Korlantas Polri), and the Ministry of Public Works, which regulates road and ferry traffic during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

Under the regulations, restrictions apply to goods vehicles with three axles or more, vehicles with trailers or semi-trailers, and vehicles transporting excavated materials, mining products, and building materials.

The restrictions will be implemented on toll roads and non-toll roads in several strategic areas from March 13 to March 29, 2026.

However, vehicles transporting essential commodities will still be allowed to operate.

Vehicles carrying fuel, LPG, basic necessities, fertilizer, livestock, and disaster relief supplies will still be allowed to pass with certain requirements. This policy aims to maintain the national supply chain and prevent shortages of goods in areas where people are travelling to.

Enforcement will be carried out through zoning arrangements, temporary relocation, and guidance to business actors to prevent them from using road shoulders.

Supervision of the distribution of basic necessities will also be strengthened to ensure that supply and prices remain stable during the freight vehicle restriction period.

Dudy affirmed that the government is striving to maintain a balance between smooth transportation and the continuity of economic activity during the holiday period.
