Schedule for the 2026 Eid al-Adha Determination Hearing: When and What Time?
The Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold a determination hearing for the start of Zulhijah 1447 Hijri on Sunday, 17 May. This hearing will determine when Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in Indonesia.
“The determination hearing is a forum that brings together the government, Islamic organisations, and experts in astronomy and astronomy to determine the start of the Hijri month,” said the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad, some time ago.
Quoting the official Instagram account of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Islamic Community Guidance, the series of determination hearings will begin at 4:00 PM at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium in Central Jakarta.
The series of activities will begin with a Hilal Position Seminar, followed by a Report on the Results of the Rukyat (crescent moon sighting), the Determination Hearing, and a Press Conference. This event will be broadcast on the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ YouTube channel and Bimas Islam TV.
Meanwhile, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) predict that there will be no differences in the date of Eid al-Adha this year.
“God willing, Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri will be uniform,” said BRIN researcher Thomas Djamaluddin on Thursday, 14 May.
Thomas explained that this is because, at the time of the determination hearing to be held on 17 May, the position of the crescent moon at sunset will be high enough throughout Indonesia and almost the entire world.
He explained that, based on astronomical calculations, the criteria for determining the start of Zulhijah—whether it be Muhammadiyah, the government, or Saudi Arabia—are expected to be the same.
“Therefore, the KHGT (Muhammadiyah), Ummul Quro (Saudi Arabia), and MABIMS (Government) will agree that the start of Zulhijah 1447 will be 18 May 2026, and Eid al-Adha will be 27 May 2026,” he said.
