PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is closing ferry services from Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk Port in Bali. This measure is being taken to honour Nyepi Day 2026 on the Island of the Gods.

The closure began on Wednesday (18/3/2026) at 5:00 PM WIB and will reopen on Friday (20/3/2026) at 5:00 AM WIB.

“At exactly 5:00 PM WIB today, ferry services from Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Port are temporarily closed starting today, and will reopen on Friday, 20 March 2026, at 5:00 AM WIB,” explained the Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, quoted from Kompas TV on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

This operational engineering for ferries to and from Gilimanuk Port is intended to ensure traffic order on Bali during the Catur Brata Penyepian.

Previously, long congestion occurred at Gilimanuk Port during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming flow.

“They are queuing to board the ships. It’s not congestion due to a lack of regulation or engineering,” said Faizal on Monday (16/3/2026).

The Head of Public Relations of Bali Police, Commissioner Pol Aria Sandy, echoed the same, explaining that on that day at 10:30 AM WITA, the vehicle queue from Tabanan and Buleleng directions reached 27 kilometres.

“Meanwhile, those from Buleleng are still around 8-9 kilometres as they were last night,” he clarified.

“Patrols are conducted to ensure orderly queues and to wake up drivers sleeping in their vehicles in the queue to proceed,” he added.

Previously, during that long congestion, 16 people were reported to have fainted due to exhaustion from waiting under the scorching sun.

Vehicles trapped in the congestion were dominated by logistics transport, private vehicles, and motorcycles heading to Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java.

Additionally, some homecomers bringing motorcycles suffered laceration wounds due to crowding, and the Gilimanuk Port medical team provided treatment for them.
