Hundreds of sympathisers crowded the area in front of Hotel Sultan in Jakarta on Wednesday (17/6/2026). They gathered to oppose the land execution by the government set to take place on Thursday (18/6/2026).

CNBC Indonesia observed at the location that the hundreds of sympathisers were predominantly dressed in blue. They carried banners bearing slogans rejecting the execution of Hotel Sultan. A number of Hotel Sultan workers in uniform were also seen gathering with the sympathisers in the front area of the hotel.

At the entrance to the main lobby of Hotel Sultan, several men in black clothing were visible. “Regarding employment, there has been no further information from management,” said one Hotel Sultan worker when asked about the fate of jobs following the government’s land execution.

Meanwhile, a sympathiser who joined the gathering in front of Hotel Sultan said the action was being held to prevent potential layoffs of employees. Several access points to Hotel Sultan had been tightly closed. Banners reading ‘State-Owned Asset’ were also visible on the fences at the hotel’s access points.

A line of police sedans was also parked around the front area of Hotel Sultan. This security enhancement was carried out a day before the Central Jakarta District Court executes the eviction of Block 15 in the GBK area, the former Hotel Sultan.

Previously, PPKGBK confirmed the eviction execution would be carried out on Thursday (18/6/2026). To support the process, several access points in the GBK area will be temporarily closed from 00:00 to 24:00, including Gate 5, Gate 7, and Gate 8 located in the Block 15 area. Additionally, the East Parking area, City Forest, Softball Stadium, and the KTT road section leading to the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) will also be temporarily closed during the process.
