Scene of the Wrecked Taxi that Triggered the Bekasi Train Collision
A train accident involving a long-distance train and a commuter train at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City, which killed 14 people, is believed to have been initially triggered by a Green SM taxi becoming stuck. Here is the scene of the taxi wreckage.
Observations by detikcom at the crossing near Bekasi Timur Station on Tuesday (28/4/2026) showed the wreckage of the taxi with code CT11271 located at the edge of the tracks. The turquoise green taxi was severely crumpled.
The front left door of the taxi was dented. Its side mirror appeared to be hanging with most of the glass broken.
Meanwhile, the front windscreen of the taxi had a small cracked section. Several people were inspecting the taxi wreckage. Many were looking inside the taxi.
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has spoken out. Kemenhub is opening the possibility of evaluating Green SM taxi operations.
“Every time an accident occurs, we will definitely conduct an evaluation so that we can learn from what happened and improve in the future,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi during a press conference at Bekasi Station on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Dudy was responding to questions about whether there would be an evaluation of Green SM taxis.
Kemenhub will also evaluate the need for double-double tracks at Bekasi Timur Station. It is known that currently, long-distance trains and commuter trains pass on the same track at Bekasi Timur Station.
“Of course, as part of our evaluation, the double-double track is included, as well as electrification,” he continued. He was responding to questions about the urgency of double-double tracks at Bekasi Timur Station.
The accident occurred on Monday (27/4) night. The total number of fatalities from the accident was 14 people. In addition, there were 84 people injured.
The accident happened when the commuter train that was hit was stopped because another commuter train was blocked by the taxi at the crossing at Bekasi Timur Station. The hard collision caused the women’s carriage at the rear to be torn open and penetrated by the Argo Bromo train.
The evacuation process for the train accident victims has been completed. All the evacuated victims were female.
“100 percent of those we evacuated (victims) are women,” said Basarnas Head Major General TNI M Syafii.
He explained that the evacuation process was completed at 08.00 WIB earlier. All SAR teams have also been withdrawn.
Syafii stated that if any body parts of victims are found during the train wreckage cleanup process, his side will take action according to procedure.
