Scene at Terminal 3 as Soekarno-Hatta Resumes Operations, Check-in Queues Stretch Long
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) in Tangerang resumed operations today. The Terminal 3 international departures area was packed with prospective passengers.
Observations by detikcom on site on Tuesday (8/9/2026) at 12.10 WIB showed queues of prospective passengers stretching through the international departures check-in area as they waited their turn to prepare for flights.
Nearly all check-in counters at Terminal 3 appeared to be open, with staff busy serving passengers.
On the information screens, almost all airline flights were scheduled to depart as planned. Only two destinations appeared to have been cancelled, namely Muscat and Colombo at 14.25 WIB.
The Terminal 3 area was filled with foreign prospective passengers carrying large suitcases and backpacks. Some were seen unpacking their belongings before checking them in as luggage.
In addition, many domestic passengers intending to fly were also present in the international departures area. Some appeared to be travelling alone, while others arrived in groups.
As is widely known, Soetta Airport resumed flight services after having been closed due to the impact of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. The airport in Tangerang, Banten, resumed operations on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
According to information from InJourney Airports, Soetta Airport began operating at 00.30 WIB. The reopening was carried out after post-eruption conditions were declared safe by the aviation authorities and the meteorological agency.
“In connection with the current eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has resumed flight operations,” according to a statement issued via the official Soekarno-Hatta Airport account.
Although the airport has reopened, prospective passengers are still advised to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport. Checks can be made through official airline channels or by contacting the InJourney Airports Contact Centre on 172.
