Scavenger finds mortar in trash bin

BEKASI: A scavenger has found a life mortar in a trash bin of the Klender housing complex in East Jakarta.

Seno, 25, the scavenger from Bintara Jaya III subdistrict of West Bekasi found the explosive device when he was scavenging the complex's trash bins on Friday.

He then took it to the police subprecinct in Bintara Jaya, said First Insp. Satino Putro of the Bekasi Police precinct.

He said that the mortar, with serial number G.6MN No:1MI PSM.LOT H2178.463, was now with the Police bomb squad in Kelapa Dua, East Jakarta.

Putro could not provide any clue as to why the mortar was there but the police are investigating the case.--Antara
