Scarlett Johansson Officially Joins 'The Batman Part II', What Role Will She Play?

The DC film franchise is set to become even more exciting with the confirmation that top actress Scarlett Johansson will be involved in the sequel to ‘The Batman Part II’.

This surprising news was announced directly by the director, Matt Reeves, through a post on the X platform. In his post, which featured a GIF of Scarlett Johansson from the film ‘Under the Skin’ (2013), Reeves wrote, “Next stop, Gotham… Welcome.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) star, known for her role as Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow, will share the screen with the main hero, Robert Pattinson. In addition to Scarlett Johansson, other actors such as Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch are also reported to be joining the film.

Although rumors of Scarlett Johansson’s involvement have been circulating since December, Reeves has remained tight-lipped about the specific character the actress will play. This has sparked a wave of speculation among fans.

One of the strongest theories links her to Sebastian Stan, who is rumored to be playing Harvey Dent. If true, many believe Johansson will play Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife.

In the storyline of the Batman: The Long Halloween comic, Gilda plays a crucial role as the figure behind the mysterious serial killer known as ‘Holiday’, seeking revenge against the Falcone criminal family.

In addition to the theory about Gilda Dent, other popular characters such as Vicki Vale, Andrea Beaumont (Phantasm), Poison Ivy, and Talia al Ghul have also been widely mentioned by fans.

‘The Batman Part II’ is the third pillar of Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Epic Crime Universe’ franchise, following the success of the first film in 2022 and the ‘The Penguin’ series on HBO.

To date, the main plot of the film remains a secret, although Reeves has occasionally provided visual teasers on social media, including a photo of the Batmobile being tested on snow with the hashtag ‘#SnowTires’, as well as a clip of an explosion with the caption, “Just having a little fun here…”

Reeves also hinted that the main villain in the sequel will be a character who has never been adapted to the big screen before. He emphasized that he wants to continue to focus the story on Batman’s development. In addition to Scarlett Johansson’s involvement, Pattinson will be joined by the cast from the first film, including Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb or Penguin, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez. ‘The Batman Part II’ is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
