SBY to install new police chief

JAKARTA: Comr. Gen. Sutanto is expected to be inaugurated as National Police chief on Friday, replacing Gen. Da'i Bakhtiar.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to take a break from the preparations for his son's wedding this weekend to lead the inauguration ceremony at the State Palace.

Sutanto, who currently heads the country's anti-narcotics agency, was approved by the House of Representatives on Monday. Most of the legislators consider the longtime friend of the President a relatively "clean" figure.

Susilo proposed Sutanto as the sole candidate to replace Da'i. -- JP
