President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to officially launch the construction of an integrated tourism area known as Treasure Bay in the Lagoi resort area of Bintan Island, Riau Islands, on Saturday.

The construction of site began earlier this year, Bintan Integrated Licensing and Investment Promotion Agency chief Mardhiah said Wednesday.

“Treasure Bay will be built in stages by a Malaysian consortium, Landmark Holdings Sdn Bhd, with total investment value of around Rp 24 trillion,” Mardhiah said as quoted by kompas.com.

The area will include a marina, green space, a resort and a residential area. The resort will also have five six-star hotels.

“Lagoi is currently the third-most popular tourist destination in Indonesia. At least 42,300 foreign tourists visited Lagoi in 2010,” she said.
