SBY Remembers Try Sutrisno: A Soldier and Statesman
Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) remembered the late sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno as a soldier, patriot, and statesman. SBY said Try Sutrisno was also an exemplary figure for his family and the nation.
SBY made these remarks after attending Try Sutrisno’s funeral procession at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP Kalibata) in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026. SBY attended accompanied by his son, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas).
“He was a soldier and patriot, he was a leader, he was an exemplary figure in his family, and above all he was a statesman,” SBY said at TMP Kalibata.
Try Sutrisno passed away in the morning at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Hospital after 16 days of treatment. Try Sutrisno was then laid to rest at a funeral home located at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6 RT 08 RW 05, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Subsequently, Try Sutrisno was given a military funeral at TMP Kalibata. The funeral ceremony was led by President Prabowo Subianto as inspector.
Current Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka also attended, standing alongside Prabowo. In addition to SBY, the ceremony was attended by eleventh Vice President Boediono and tenth and twelfth Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla.
Cabinet officials in attendance included Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, Head of the National Energy Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the commanders of the TNI services.
