President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono promised on Wednesday to allocate state budget next year to help five East Java regencies breed local goats as a leading cattle industry, Antara reported.

“Insya Allah [God willing] we will set aside a budget to develop the cattle industry,” Yudhoyono told local farmers during his visit to a goat breeding centre in Tulungagung.

The President said the assistance would be coordinated with the local governments to avoid overlapping.

Farmers in the regencies of Tulungagung, Blitar, Trenggalek, Ponorogo and Pacitan have long been breeding etawa goat, which is popular for its milk.

During his visit the President awarded 30 male etawa goats each to the five regional governments.
